Need a blog? – Drupal vs. WordPress

Hello, I'm a DruPress?

Ok, so my blog has been in a holding pattern, because I’ve been indecisively comparing Drupal and WordPress.  I’ve been working enough with both lately that I should have known what the winner would be, but I hadn’t the foresight.  Drupal is overkill.  While it certainly offers a very robust set of tools for content management it stands in the way of a quick-and-dirty blog posting platform.  Also, another deal breaker is the fact that there is no iPhone app for Drupal.  However, WordPress’s iPhone app allows me to post from anywhere.

While I totally agree with your article, that image hurts! Ouch! Although I think you’re totally correct in that Drupal is overkill for a blog, and WordPress is perfect for this (and I use it myself for my blog) I’m a huge fan of Drupal (it is extremely flexible, unlike WordPress) and think your image is an unfair representation of these two CMS apps. I don’t think this is an apples-to-oranges comparison and could give some people the wrong impression of a great CMS app.

@Darren: You’re right, the image is a little one-sided now that I look at it that way, but I did not have the intention. Drupal is an awesome platform and I’ve help integrate it into my school’s infrastructure for that reason. I see both WordPress and Drupal as both uniquely advantageous platforms: one for blogging, and the other for everything else. Although, Drupal is just as easy to set up for blogging, but the documentation is/was lacking, and there are a few more hurdles to jump through.

I’ve recently discovered the iPhone app BlogPress which does allow posting to Drupal.
